safety is paramount

Safety - Our Top Priority

All of our companies have an excellent safety record and commit to providing the highest standards. We also believe it is important that young people learn how to manage their own safety and assess risk involved. We work hard to ensure that this balance is achieved without ever compromising safety.

Practical and Effective Safety Management Systems

Some of our Safety Management Systems have been recognised as leading examples from within the industry. They have been developed over the years by our experienced teams, combined with professional guidance. We constantly review and develop our procedures, ensuring the highest possible standards.

Comprehensive Risk Assessments

Every key aspect of our tours has undergone a full risk assessment. Our documentation follows a generic template which has been developed for ease of use. This can also be used by Party Leaders to complete or adapt for their own specific purpose. This is accompanied by the ‘6 Easy Steps to Completing a Risk Assessment Guide.’ Our knowledgeable teams will also help to complete any necessary paperwork including Local Authority forms and will even help reassure anxious parents.

Full Supplier Audits

All brochured accommodation used by us undergoes audits managed by fully-qualified health and safety experts. If a unit does not comply with our stringent guidelines, we will simply not use the centre as we insist on providing peace of mind to our customers in terms of safety at all times. Likewise, coaches undergo a similar practice where they must adhere to a strict code of practice and are regularly checked. All of our staff are fully trained and have the appropriate checks made. Any external experts that we use as leaders will also undergo a full audit.

Dedicated 24/7 Team

What we offer in our 24/7 operation is not a mobile that is passed around from inexperienced person to person on a rota basis, but a dedicated, professional Crisis Management Team available around the clock who, should the unfortunate happen, can deal specifically with accidents and emergencies. We have instant access to the international network of medical support centres through International SOS and for remote expeditions we use state-of-the-art satellite communications equipment appropriate for the itinerary.

Exceeding Required Standards

We acknowledge and work to exceed the standards set by BAHA (JCA), EPA (World Challenge), STF (Travelbound, Skibound, SkiClass & HTS), FTO and other Governing Bodies. We fully support the Learning Outside the Classroom initiative and have already achieved the Quality Badge across our School Ski brands, JCA & Travelbound. We are working with the scheme to achieve this in all areas of our business in the near future.

Easing the Burden

Recent feedback received by TUI Education has shown that one of the core reasons teachers are being put off arranging school trips is the headache surrounding safety and administration. Approximately 7 million pupil visits take place every year and the benefits of ‘Outdoor Learning’ have proven not only to help bring subjects to life but also to switch on learners who have struggled in the classroom environment.

Teachers can find organising school trips a daunting process and we continually strive to find ways to make their lives easier. We offer teachers not only our knowledge and weight in the industry, but also expert advice and comfort in exceptional safety standards. However, where we can really help the teacher is with the administration. Many of our customers object to the laborious paper work which they are now all obliged to complete. Our risk assessments and Safety Management documentation are easy to follow, use and adapt. Our knowledgeable tour advisors are there to support teachers every step of the way.
